TOCOBO

Tocobo is a Korean skincare brand run by Picton Co., Ltd. out of Mapo-gu, Seoul, under the line follow your intuition. Its catalogue is wide — sun care, cleansers, toners, lip care, hair and makeup — and its product pages are specific.

Sun care is the biggest part. The Bio Watery Sun Cream names its filters outright: ethylhexyl triazone, bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate and terephthalylidene dicamphor sulfonic acid. Alongside the creams sit sun sticks — Cotton Soft, Cotton Airy, Cica Cooling, Vita Waterproof.

The Multi Ceramide Cream is built on five named ceramide types — NP, NS, AP, AS and EOP — with cholesterol, beta-glucan and three forms of hyaluronic acid, and Tocobo calls it a high-density ten-layer moisture cream. The lip range splits in two: oils and balms for shine, and overnight lip masks for repair.

Three are worth unpacking: what a named filter list tells you, what five ceramide types buy, and what each half of the lip range is for.

Start with the filter list, which you can check in seconds. Every filter Tocobo names is an organic one: they absorb UV and tend to vanish on skin. The two mineral filters, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are absent — and those are what scatter visible light and leave a pale film. So the list predicts no cast, though not how a formula feels on you. The sunscreen below runs on different organic filters to the same effect.

Five ceramide types is a real difference from one. Skin's barrier lipids are ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids together, so look for all three in one list rather than a tally of ceramides. The ten-layer figure is a texture claim: one dense application standing in for several lighter ones. The barrier cream below has the whole set.

A lip range covers two moments. Lips have no oil glands of their own, so whatever you apply does that job for them: an oil gives softness and shine through the day, and an overnight mask lays a thicker layer while you sleep. The lip oil below covers the day, the night lip mask below the night.
