innisfree
If a volcanic clay mask, a green tea serum or a daily sunscreen brought you here, this covers what clay does, what green tea contributes, and the steps we send.
About
innisfree is a Korean skincare brand from AMOREPACIFIC, and it tells its own story through Jeju Island: green tea planted on rocky ground the brand calls japjongji, farmland nobody wanted. Its lines are named for what they are built on — Green Tea, Volcanic, Vitamin C, Black Tea, Cherry Blossom, Orchid and Retinol Cica.
Its specific claims are worth writing down. The Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum runs on a named Green Tea Tri-biotics complex and an encapsulated hyaluronic acid innisfree describes as over five times more absorbent than hyaluronic acid alone, across three forms of HA. The Pore Clearing Clay Mask 2X pairs what it calls Super Volcanic Clusters — volcanic ash, in its own words, that absorbs excess sebum — with lactic acid as an AHA. The Daily UV Defense Sunscreen is SPF 50+ PA++++ and lists avobenzone at 2.5%, homosalate at 7.0% and octisalate at 4.3%, with no white cast.
Three are worth unpacking: what encapsulation buys you, what volcanic ash does in a clay mask, and why that filter list means no white cast.
Worth it?
Start with the encapsulated hyaluronic acid. Encapsulation wraps the molecule so it survives the formula and releases more gradually, and over five times more absorbent is innisfree's own published figure for its version — a number worth having on record. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant either way: it holds water at the surface, and does that best on damp skin under something that seals it. The kombucha serum below pairs hyaluronic acid with ceramide NP and niacinamide, so it covers hydration and barrier in one step.
Volcanic ash is a mineral absorbent, so that claim holds. It sits in the same family as kaolin, bentonite and montmorillonite, the clays behind most masks. Time on skin matters more: once a clay mask dries fully it pulls water out of skin rather than oil off it, so ten to fifteen minutes and a lukewarm rinse is the technique. The clay pack below uses four mineral clays with green tea leaf extract.
The no-white-cast claim holds up, and it is a filter question. Mineral filters scatter visible light and leave a pale film; avobenzone, homosalate and octisalate absorb UV and tend to disappear. The sunscreen below runs on the same filter family.
We don't carry innisfree itself. For each of these jobs, though, we send an alternative we rate highly — the four picks below.
Recommended
Jeju Matcha Clay Pack
Dr.Ceuracle$294.4 (12)
For the clay-mask job, and a well-matched one: four mineral clays — kaolin, bentonite, montmorillonite and illite — with Jeju matcha and green tea leaf extract for pore care. An even layer on dry skin, ten to fifteen minutes, lukewarm rinse, two or three times a week.
Kombucha Plant Biome Serum
Herbloom$424.5 (37)
For the green tea serum step. A black tea kombucha ferment sits seventh in the list, with centella, niacinamide, ceramide NP, hyaluronic acid and madecassoside around it and a six-peptide blend at the end. Goes on after toner, smoothed over face and neck and pressed rather than rubbed.
Artemisia Ultra - Calming Gel
Earnest Mom$24.874.4 (191)
For the gel-moisturizer job, and the closest we send to a jelly cream. A short list: artemisia ferment high up, with centella, aloe ferment, hyaluronic acid and green tea leaf extract. Genuinely fragrance-free, which the list bears out. It absorbs fast without tack and chills well for flushed skin.
Water Barrier Sunscreen(OTC)
P.CALM$19.984.3 (129)
For the sunscreen step, and the one we would reach for here. SPF50+ PA++++ on organic filters — avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene and octisalate — so no white cast, in a water-based texture that stays light rather than chalky. Green tea leaf extract and centella are in the formula.
How to use
innisfree's Pore Clearing Clay Mask 2X: after cleansing, apply to a dry face or just the areas you're worried about, leave ten minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water, once or twice a week. Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum: after cleanser and toner, before cream, smooth two to three pumps over face and neck and pat it in, morning and night. Daily UV Defense Sunscreen: last step of skincare, before makeup, generously and evenly, fifteen minutes before sun exposure, reapplied every two hours. The picks above run in that order — mask occasionally, then serum, gel, sunscreen.

Questions
What does a clay mask actually do?
It absorbs. Mineral clays soak up sebum and loosen debris in pores. That is physical, not chemical, which is why clay suits oily skin and can strip dry skin.
How often should I use one, and how long?
Two or three times a week, ten to fifteen minutes. Don't leave it on until it cracks.
Green tea leaf extract or green tea seed oil?
Leaf extract is the antioxidant form, used in small supporting amounts. Seed oil is an emollient that conditions.
Does it matter which island the ingredients come from?
Jeju's volcanic soil and wet climate are a real growing story, and innisfree has farmed green tea there for decades. Read it as provenance.
Is a clay mask enough for congested pores?
It helps with surface oil and loose debris. For persistent blackheads a salicylic acid step does more, since it works inside the pore.
