medicube

Medicube is a Korean skincare brand run by APR Co., Ltd. out of Songpa-gu, Seoul, and it's known for two things at once. The first is AGE-R, its at-home device line — the Booster Pro and the Derma EMS Shot among them, handheld tools combining microcurrent, EMS and LED with a conductive gel. Devices aren't a category we carry, so that half stays with Medicube. The second is the cosmetics range, in named lines — Pink PDRN, Zero and Red among them — and that's the half where we have something to send.

What's useful is how specific it is. The Zero Pore Pad 2.0 is an AHA and BHA pad, and Medicube prints both strengths: AHA at 0.01 percent and BHA at 0.45 percent, over panthenol and centella, on a two-sided pad, seventy to a jar. The PDRN Pink Collagen Gel Mask comes as two gel sheets, upper and lower, and the brand's own cue for when to take them off is that the gel turns clearer as it absorbs. The PDRN Pink Collagen Capsule Cream is a two-part product: a pink capsule and a clear gel you mix yourself, to whatever ratio your skin wants.

Three things are worth unpacking: what those acid percentages buy, what PDRN and collagen do in a mask as opposed to a leave-on, and whether a two-part format changes anything.

Start with the acids, because Medicube prints the number most brands leave off. Salicylic acid works inside pores and is usually dosed between 0.5 and 2 percent, so BHA at 0.45 percent sits at the bottom of that range, and AHA at 0.01 percent adds little. Together that makes a mild daily pad rather than an exfoliating treatment. The pad below goes the other way: succinic acid for oil and pores, with centella and calamine to calm.

PDRN is polydeoxyribonucleotide — DNA fragments, usually from salmon. In a cosmetic formula it works on comfort and barrier support rather than resurfacing, and it is at its best paired with the peptides and collagens that carry the firming side. Almost no brand publishes how much is in the bottle, so judge one on the rest of its formula. The sheet mask below puts PDRN alongside nine peptides, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate.

Collagen is a size question more than a percentage one. Intact collagen is a large molecule, so a mask works at the surface, holding water against skin and leaving it plumper for a day or so — real, and temporary. Formulas that want more break it into smaller forms: the ampoule below carries nine, hydrolysed collagen among them.

For Medicube's Zero Pore Pad 2.0: after cleansing, wipe the whole face except the eye and mouth area with the embossed side, following the direction of the skin, then the soft side, then pat in what's left. For the PDRN Pink Collagen Gel Mask: tone first, apply the upper and lower sheets, take them off once they turn clear, then pat in the rest.
